It had been a long, trying day. Following the interview with Skeeter, where he'd had to dredge up thoughts and memories he really hadn't wanted dredged up, he'd gone into the castle. Studiously avoiding the places where he remembered finding the bodies of his classmates, taking detours when necessary, he'd finally made his way to the newly reopened Gryffindor Tower and spent some time there. It had been a sanctuary of sorts last year, but the emptiness and silence and cleanliness no longer made it feel like home. He hadn't stayed long.
He'd gone home and taken a long, hot shower, more to erase the memory of the interview than anything else before dressing for his date with Ginny. He hoped that tonight would be more relaxing, more fun than when she'd brought lunch the other day and they'd had their disagreement. It still wasn't resolved, but Neville figured tonight wasn't the time for that. Tonight he wanted to take Ginny out for a nice meal, spoil her a bit, and maybe browse some of the shop windows afterward. He'd watch her reactions, hoping for ideas for a birthday gift. He still had no idea what to get her for her birthday next month.
Apparating to the Burrow, he knocked on the door, straightening the collar of his robe. He'd been coming here for weeks now and still felt nervous whenever he knocked.
