Luna would be arriving soon. They had made plans last week, and Hermione was looking forward to spending a little time with her friend. It was nice that she could call Luna that, especially when their relationship had started off rather rocky a couple of years ago. Luna still saw the world in a different way and could natter on at times about things that were just illogical and impossible, but Hermione no longer felt threatened by that sort of thinking. She had when she was sixteen and thought everything had to make sense in a way she could understand. Now, she knew better, and her friendship with Luna had just grown since sixth year.
Besides, Luna had a matter-of-fact way of looking at the world and a gentle bluntness that Hermione appreciated. She'd rather occasionally roll her eyes over the idea of this creature or that theory than spend company with someone without an imaginative bone in their body. Since the war had ended, she had watched Luna move on and heal, showing strength and optimism that was much needed in the post-war world. Optimism and hope weren't so common, not when people had endure so much loss and pain over the last year. In a way, Hermione was being selfish by spending time with Luna before she had to go back to school because, while she did really enjoy her company, she also liked being around someone so positive.
Hermione tried to be optimistic. Even in the worst of circumstances, she had to find some sliver of hope that the world could be better, that a person could change, that everyone could learn and grow from the past. There were times when a cynical part of her mind muttered more than normal, but she never gave up hope. In a way, Luna reminded her of herself in that respect, so they were able to get along smashingly despite their differences.
This morning, they were going to go out and take the tube. Luna had never been on the Underground or seen much of Muggle London, and it had seemed a good time for their little adventure. She was glad that they'd arranged to meet early, since she had plans for the afternoon, and this would give them enough time to enjoy a little sightseeing before she had to get home. Davis was on duty today, so Hermione had told him earlier that she'd be going out. It would be awkward to be followed when spending time with a friend, but she'd promised Harry and Ron, so she'd let the Auror do his job.
Kreacher was upstairs cleaning, and the house was quiet. She wasn't sure what the boys were doing, or if they were even awake yet, but she'd told them she'd be going out in the morning, so she didn't have to leave a note. Once Luna arrived, they'd walk to the tube station. She wasn't exactly sure where their morning would take them, but it would actually be rather fun to just see where they ended up. For something like this, she didn't have to have a plan or schedule because it was spending time with a friend that mattered, not the destination.
