Well, that had certainly been eventful. Bill could see what Professor McGonagall was concerned for - in nearly all his classes the Slytherins were persona non grata. He had taken a suggestion from Mattie, and drawn up a seating chart pairing students from different houses, and the resulting tension was so thick, you could cut it with a knife. He hoped it would get better as time went on. He'd introduced himself, explaining for the older students that Professor Penman had died at the battle of Hogwarts, and had conjured some tissues where needed. Fortunately, the morning's students were all new to the subject, and he hated having to overburden them, but catching them up was paramount. He was going to quiz them later that week on what seemed to be the prior year's curriculum, so he knew where the gaps were for future assignments. In the meantime, the 4 inches worth of essay was small compared to some professors.
He'd chatted with Hermione briefly at lunch, inviting her over that evening to catch up. He could tell something was on her mind, but didn't want to pressure her with it in front of her classmates or other teachers. So, after dinner, he helped Fleur clear the table in the kitchen and then settled down with the wireless, looking over teaching notes for the next day's lesson as he waited for her to arrive.
