Halloween hadn't been particularly important before starting Hogwarts. Hermione's parents hadn't done anything special for that holiday, dismissing it as an excuse to eat too many sweets and behave terribly. After she arrived at Hogwarts, though, it had become one of the most important days in her life. Well, one specific Halloween, at least.
It had become the day she became friends with Harry and Ron. True, her friendship with Ron hadn't been as instantaneous as her friendship with Harry after the troll incident, but it had been a huge turning point. In the years since, it had been Halloween feasts, and, one year, the announcement of the Tri-Wizard Champion, which, in the end, had proven to be another turning point. Last year, they hadn't kept up with the days really, other than Christmas, so she couldn't even think of where they'd been or if Ron had even been with them by then.
Not being at the Halloween Feast tonight would be weird, she knew, if only because they had been at school earlier and seen the pumpkins being prepared. After work, she decided to go to Diagon Alley to buy a few things for dinner tonight. She had talked to Harry about them having their own feast, which meant they needed pumpkins and sweets. It wouldn't be the Great Hall, but maybe it would be enjoyable.
When she arrived in Diagon Alley, she started to head towards the sweet shop first, since Ron and Harry would probably find that the most important element to a successful Halloween feast. After that, she thought she'd look for pumpkins and maybe she'd find some silly trinkets shaped like trolls. If not, she'd try her hand at Transfiguration when she got home.
