Summary: Fleur and Bill hold an open house for family and friends to celebrate Bill's upcoming birthday.
Completion: Closed
Fleur had Bill move the dining table up against the wall so that she could arrange the buffet foods. She felt that allowing guests to serve themselves from a pleasant array of finger foods was easier than planning a sit down meal. The idea for an open house where people could drop in whenever they liked made things easier also.
She had not wanted to make a big show of Bill's birthday because he did not seem to want one. Fleur hadn't been willing to ignore doing something where his family could come together, however, because that would only distress his mother. Bill was trying to keep up with his family more and his birthday was a perfect opportunity to do that. It would also give them a chance to see friends she felt would like to wish Bill well. The idea to do something on Sunday came about because Fleur knew everyone had very busy schedules and Sunday was one of the few days most people would be likely to be free. It also left Tuesday -- Bill's actual birthday -- free for Bill and Fleur to spend together. Fleur had no problem with anyone seeing the present she had for her husband, but she was sure that Bill would not think the same way. She smiled thinking about what his reaction might be. The best part was that the present wasn't completely finished yet either. He would still receive three more parts in the coming months.
There was time to think about his present later. Right now, she needed to finish setting up the buffet and the bar for the open house. She had a few bottles of wine, pumpkin juice and a lovely fruit punch that she very much liked. She asked Bill to bring the beer and butterbeer, and once everything was set the way she wanted, she turned on the wireless to play soft music. Fleur wasn't sure what size space Molly might need for the cake, but Fleur had moved a table over to the side of the buffet that could be transfigured to size once she knew. She cast a charm on the hearth rug to clean up guests coming in from the Floo and looked about, satisfied that everything was as she wanted it.
Fleur wrapped her arms around her husband and kissed him, "'appy early birthday, Bill."
