Michael hated packing. He'd hated it while he lived at the castle, even though his mother took care of it for him, and he hated it more now that it was his responsibility. His trunk had sat open in the corner of his room for several days, waiting for him to get his act together.
His presents for his parents and Maggie were packed, and he only needed clothing for a few days. His plan was to return to Hogsmeade as soon as possible after Christmas and Boxing Day. He had a sinking feeling, however, that his mother would insist on a trip to the family Healer to have his eye looked at. Maybe he'd be able to talk her out of it, but the more he thought about it, the less likely that seemed. Especially if he wanted her to cook for him.
He finally decided whatever he had packed was going to have to do, and closed and shrank his trunk. He slipped it into his pocket, grabbed the presents he had gotten for Greg and Draco, and headed down the stairs. He placed the gifts under the tree and stepped back to admire
their work.
NEWTs were looming, his eye was bothering him more than he cared to admit, and the Carrow trial was on his mind, but for now it was Christmas, and he had a few days to let his Mum and Dad dote on him. He made sure all the lamps and candles were extinguished and the fire was out, and Apparated home.
