Work had gone quickly that morning. There wasn't as much to do with the school closed for the holidays, but there seemed to always be letters to organize or questions to answer. Fortunately, there was enough to do to keep the morning occupied. Hermione preferred to be busy if the alternative was doing nothing at all.
After she straightened up her desk, she headed to the Great Hall to get something for lunch. She was meeting Neville in the common room, but she hadn't thought to bring anything with her. She understood what he meant about the chocolate frog nonsense after several students stared at her and whispered. She hadn't even consented to have some bloody card made, so it was annoying that they just could because they wanted. Of course, she could probably research the legalities behind it and fight them if she really wanted to make the effort, but there were more important things to fight for in the world than having some silly card made.
She got a sandwich and bowl of soup, which seemed appropriate for a cold winter's day. She transfigured a Tray and put her things on it along with a glass of pumpkin juice. When she finished, she levitated the tray in front of her and went to the common room. Neville wasn't there yet, though she knew he'd likely be coming from outside, which would take longer.
It was going to be nice to have lunch with him. Their conversations were always pleasant, even if the topic wasn't always. The reality that school would be ending soon was starting to hit her as the new year approached, too, which had her worried that she'd lose touch with some of her friends when they were no longer seeing each other in class or at the Ministry. She knew that it wasn't necessary to see people often to be friends, since she considered Viktor a friend when they just wrote letters every few weeks, but not seeing someone often did make it more difficult. There had to be more of an effort on both parts, really, and she didn't know who amongst her casual friends would make such an effort for her.
Work wouldn't even be a way to stay in touch if she got the job with Fleur. She wouldn't really be around any of her classmates like she would if she worked for the Ministry. While change was a necessary part of life, it didn't mean that she liked it or looked forward to possibly drifting apart from the people in her life. With a shake of her head, she sat down at one of the tables and organized her things while waiting for Neville.
