Neville wondered if he shouldn't tell his friend that Malfoy was most likely still in love with her. On one hand, he really didn't want to think about helping Malfoy, particularly not after
being told to his face that Malfoy hated him. On the other hand, Pansy was Neville's friend and if she still had feelings for Malfoy, it might make things easier for her to know Malfoy had feelings too. Of course both of those hands didn't take into consideration Neville's own recent realization that he might have more than friendly feelings for Pansy himself.
He was going to try not to dwell on it.
It was really the only thing he could do right now. He had an apprenticeship to work on, not to mention his own unsettled feelings about how bad relying on him had been for Ginny. Neville really wasn't sure what he felt for Pansy aside from friendship and appreciation of her many charms. Neville certainly didn't want to let any of the ire he felt against Malfoy leading him to use Pansy in any way. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her. He wouldn't be able to look himself in the mirror if he even considered something like that. No, the best thing he could do was continue being Pansy's friend, just like he'd been for months. If there was something between them it would work itself out in time. If there wasn't, that was okay too because he already had a really good friend he hadn't had before. Then again, he wasn't sure not saying something and giving her a part in the decision was fair. Neville liked to play fair.
Neville finished buttoning his shirt and fixed his collar. Last night while they were revising Herbology, he and Pansy had decided to celebrate the last of his NEWTs and the end of her first week of them with an evening away from revising. In the course of deciding where to have dinner, one of them had suggested the
guidebook she'd purchased two weeks ago. She fetched the book after they'd finished going over Herbology theory and this time Neville opened it to a random page. Glagow was their destination. Next, he moved forward until they found the section on dining. On that page, it was Pansy's turn to close her eyes and point. Barça was a Tapas bar which offered salsa dancing on Friday. Neville expected her to refuse because dinner and dancing was a lot like a date but she'd only winked and told him he'd better wear comfortable shoes.
Naturally, he followed directions. Comfortable shoes, black trousers and jacket, a goldish-coloured shirt with no tie, and a clip full of that odd muggle paper money and he was ready to go. The place was a block or so from the small Magical section of Glasgow so it would be easy to get there and back via Floo. At seven o'clock, he escaped downstairs without drawing Shay or Dean's attention and walked down to knock on Pansy's door.
