Date: 11 March 1999
Characters: Mandy Brocklehurst, others?
Location: Honeydukes Sweet Shoppe, Hogsmeade
Status: Public/Open
Summary: Mandy gets an owl at the shoppe.
Completion: In Progress?

Mandy had just finished getting the shoppe ready for opening and was about to open up the front door, when there was a rapping at the window. It was an owl, but one she didn't recognize. When she looked a bit more carefully, Mandy saw what it was carrying had an official Hogwarts seal. NEWTs, she thought, and breathed heavily. Well, here we go.

She gave the owl a few treats and took the parchment from him gingerly. Taking it back behind the counter, Mandy sipped her hot chocolate, as was her morning tradition, and braced herself as she opened it up.

It read:

Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests Results:

Pass Grades:
Outstanding (O)
Exceeds Expectations (E)
Acceptable (A)

Fail Grades:
Poor (P)
Dreadful (D)
Troll (T)

Mandy Brocklehurst has achieved:

Ancient Runes O
Arithmancy O
Charms E
Defense Against the Dark Arts A
Herbology E
Transfiguration E

Overall, not too bad, she thought, though there was certainly room for improvement in Defense. She did well with theory, she was sure, but the practical exam was what had caught her up. Maybe her friends who had more experience there could help her out a bit, though she hoped she'd never have to use any of those skills in life.

Mandy sighed and rolled up the parchment again and stowed it away under the counter before getting back to work stocking various candies before the first rush of customers could pull her attention away from her tedious work.

She didn't mind working in the sweets shoppe, but she was glad that her scores were decent enough to send out for the jobs she really wanted, which were in writing; she'd seen an advertisement the day before for a position at Obscurus Books in Diagon Alley that she wanted to apply for and had thought about getting in touch with Rita Skeeter, as well, since Reed had suggested it. In any case, his mum was going to chat with her about writing and Mandy was excited by the possibilities her future had that might take her away from the shoppe.

As she brought out today's fresh fudge, Mandy thought how fortunate she was to have made good connections at the sweet shoppe, just in case her writing career didn't pan out the way she wanted. At least she would have good recommendations from her former superiors and they would likely keep her on if she needed extra money.

Mandy smiled to herself and began to hum quietly, not even noticing when the shoppe bell rang as customers started to enter; she was too caught up in her daydreaming about sitting in a cafe in Diagon Alley, watching people pass and working on her next big writing project.
