There were a few stores on Diagon Alley that sold gorgeous vintage jewellery. Rita, having spent the morning choosing a dress from her wardrobe, then a killer pair of heels and her best seamed stockings to go with it, decided that what she needed was some colourful jewellery.
Vintage would match the dress, and solid colour would make the most impact. She'd found a
chunky jade bangle in her jewellery box, and now all she needed were some earrings, and perhaps a necklace, if she could find one that would suit.
Also, poking around in stores filled with beautiful old things was always enjoyable. A sideways glance at a table, a lamp, and Rita found herself wondering where it had come from, whose fingers had lit the wicks or polished the wood, and how it had come to be sitting in a shop, maintained by a shop owner or an elf in a not-quite-loving manner.
Rita noticed that Wizarding antiques were often older than Muggle ones, too. All of the history was so preserved - a society so insular - right from the time that they began to break away from Muggles. One only had to walk around Hogwarts to guess that, but seeing it laid out in stores for people to buy was mind-blowing.
At the third store Rita tried, the shop assistant had to blow the dust off the jewellery case, but when she did.. oh.
Rita did love beautiful things.
