Anthony had turned in his application, CV, and references at Obscurus Books first thing in the morning and was exhausted from looking at flats ever since. He squinted up at the noontime sun as he made his way towards the Pink Umbrella for his scheduled lunch with Michael.
He scanned the dining room but didn't see his friend anywhere--unsurprising, since Anthony was several minutes early--and so allowed the perky witch who greeted him to show him to a table. He ordered water and, to pass the time until Michael arrived, took out the parchment on which he'd been scribbling notes all morning. The one-bedroom flats he'd seen were all nice, but he was worried about being able to afford them. He tried to convince himself he could make do with a studio for a while. He wasn't even certain he wanted to look at the one-bedroom flat above the Pink Umbrella, as he was supposed to do after lunch. Too tempting.
The server brought Anthony his water and he sipped it absently, going over his list, waiting for Michael to arrive.
