Cho put away her broomstick servicing kit, eager to hit the skies. Between work and inclement weather this last week, she hadn’t had the time or opportunity to go flying. She missed it and hoped once she adjusted to a daily routine at St. Mungo’s, she could again work in a few morning flights during the week.
She had gotten up early, knowing she wanted to be in the air at the break of dawn. She released her owl for an early morning flight as well. While owls might not be considered the most affectionate of pets, they did develop a bond with their owners. Sometimes
Lady Grey would locate her when she was flying and take a few passes through the air with her. In their case, there was a mutual respect for each other’s need to fly.
As she left her flat, she decided to fly to the park rather than Apparate since there should still be a few minutes before dawn. She really did love the speed of her Firebolt, which had been a gift from her brothers for her seventeenth birthday. Her parents hadn’t been too thrilled about it, not wanting to encourage any possibility of her considering a future in Quidditch. She would need to write her family later this morning to let them know she was doing well. They always appreciated that reassurance.
Once she arrived at the park, she began flying in large loops instinctively measuring an area, roughly 58 by 152 metres. She thought she could probably mark a Quidditch field with her eyes closed by now. She lay forward, with her arms extended towards the end of the broomstick and one foot tucked around the base of the broom. She began picking up speed but still kept the tight formation within the confinements of a playing field.
Flying awakened every sense and she kept pushing herself to keep that invigorating pace. As dawn broke over Hogsmeade, she slowed until she was hovering high in the sky to welcome the new day. There was just something empowering in rising up to meet the sun.
She glanced over at Hogwarts, its grounds sprawling past the edge of the park. Today, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor would be playing for the Quidditch Cup. She couldn’t help but be happy about that, and a bit nostalgic. She laughed as she dropped into a dive, content to practice a few playing tactics and maneuvers before returning to earth.
