Utopia had been brilliant about letting them decorate a bit for the party. Apparently her parents still had plenty of guilt over the things that had happened over the last year, so Lavender had been given money for the party. Mostly, Lisa had done the work of sending out invites and getting and numbers and dealing with Utopia, which Lavender had the job of decorating and making things look pretty - it suited her perfectly.
Balloons in metallic jewel colours were the main feature of the decorations, most tied together in arrangements in various places, although some were left loose to float above the guests. Some of the balloons were also charmed to pop silently at random times and shower the guests with glitter, though Lavender couldn't be persuaded to tell anyone which ones they were.
There were also small bowls of sweets on quite a few tables. Most of the sweets were perfectly harmless, but there were a few mixed in from WWW, too, like the lollipops that changed the colour of your hair, Gummi Gigglers and Break-the-Ice Mints. She'd been careful in her selections not to pick anything that would offend anyone, but anyone who knew her well enough to be invited should have known where she worked.
Proper food was going to be served later, apparently, at about eight o'clock. There was going to be plenty of chips, chili (with cheese!) and maybe some other snack-y things; Lavender was already looking forward to it and had her hopes set on a fun evening.
The only thing untouched anything even slightly mischievous was the birthday cake. Or, rather, birthday cakes as Lavender had made two smaller ones rather than one big one. In a way, one was hers and one was Lisa's - it made sense to cater for different tastes. Naturally, one was chocolate and one was a Victoria sponge, though Lavender had decorated both to be a bit more exotic. And, of course, there were candles. There had to be candles.
