Today in art I learned about Kathe Kollwitz. Shes an amazing artist from Germany. I acctually look up to her because of the fact that she went through so much yet she kept drawing/painting. She lived in the time of the Hollocaust. She wasnt jewish, but she didnt believe in the wars. Most of her artwork have dark oppressive subjects such as: malnourished, poverty stricken, suffering, death, sick, etc. She ended up graduating from a art school and married a doctor. By this time Hitler had demonished all artists work, and didnt allow any art to be done except for his own. Her art is an expression of her tumutuous life...Its a reaction against the poor social conditions of germany.
I believe that this one represents her son [who was killed in WW1] and her grandson [who was killed in WW2] being taken away by death.
I believe that this woman is amazing. Even through all her grief and hardship she still proceeded on doing what she loved to do & I for one, admire that.
