roadhouse_mama Brief history of your character ((part headcanon as her in-canon history is pretty slim pickings. Please let me know and I can edit the headcanon out.))
Ellen was introduced into the life of a hunter when she was seventeen. Kidnapped by a nest of vampires, she was held for nearly a week, tortured and drained to the point of death. She’d all but given up hope, until her high school sweetheart, one Bill Harvelle, rescued her from the nest. Much to Bill’s surprise, he found Ellen alive, and beating one of the vampires to death with a tire iron.
They married a year later. When their daughter Joanna Beth was born, Bill and Ellen opened the Roadhouse, keeping it a friendly environment for hunters. It was a safe place they could exchange intelligence, swap magical tomes, or even find a discreet place to have minor injuries sewn up. It was thanks to the Roadhouse that the Harvelles met and made friends with John Winchester.
Ellen doesn’t discuss what happened the night a bloodied and battered John Winchester came to her door with the devastating news of her husband’s death on a hunt. For years, she blamed John, even hated him for shattering the life of her young daughter. It was a very long time before she was able to finally forgive him.
It was because of a call made to one of John’s many cell phones that brought his two sons into her life. Ellen took them in and provided what intelligence she could on the local hunters whenever they called her looking for help. As her daughter expressed a strong desire to go out on a hunt herself, Ellen started going back out with her to keep her safe.
She fell out of touch with the Winchesters until a desperate phone call from Rufus, an old friend of Bobby’s sends the boys to a town under siege from demons. The Winchester brothers find Ellen and Jo already on site, trying to keep a handful of civilians alive. Her first reaction after seeing Sam and Dean for the first time in months is a worried hug, then a slap for making her worry about them. She loves them, but she won’t take any of their lame excuses either.
Their last, desperate hunt was to the city of Carthage. There, Ellen and the others planned to confront Lucifer and use the Colt, a magical revolver imbued with the power to kill anything, to destroy the fallen archangel. They spent one last night at Bobby’s house, as a family. Ellen involved in a drinking contest with Castiel, Dean hitting on Jo, and Bobby looking pleasantly exasperated with the lot of them.
The hunt turns out to be a trap; and to save Sam and Dean and allow them the chance to use the Colt, a mortally wounded Jo and Ellen detonate a massive bomb in a hardware store, killing themselves and the pack of hellhounds that had them surrounded
Brief synopsis of your character's personality: Ellen Harvelle - Roadhouse Mama. At first blush, Ellen doesn't really seem like the maternal type. She's strong, sarcastic and has been dealing with hunters most of her life. She knows exactly what's waiting for people out there in the dark and she's not afraid to go out there and take the battle to the monsters when the situation warrants it. The Roadhouse she ran (until it was blown up by demons) functioned as a sort of central base of operations for most hunters in the region, and as such, it made her privy to intelligence on both other hunters and which crisis was going down where. While she's not afraid to hunt, she also knows precisely how dangerous the fight is, having lost her husband on a hunt with John Winchester some years in the past. She has since forgiven John for the loss, realizing that it's almost always the destiny of a hunter to meet some matter of violent end. Bill chose to hunt, he knew the risks involved.
Her understanding regarding the lifestyle of a hunter winds up being deeply compromised when her daughter Jo attempts to set out on a similar course as a hunter. As a mother and a widow, she wants to keep her daughter safe; as a hunter, she realizes that the only way to keep her daughter safe is to go out in the field with her where they wind up treating each other as equals versus parent and child.
Ellen is fiercely protective of those she loves. Once she got to know the Winchester boys, she didn't hesitate to take them under her wing. If they needed shelter, she gave it, if it was intelligence, she'd call around and find it. She also didn't pull her punches with them. After being separated from Dean and Sam for a considerable amount of time, her reaction was to first give them a relieved hug, then slap them good and hard for making her worry in the first place
What is your character's sexual orientation? Hetero

Entrance
Ellen stirred to wakefulness with a pounding headache and a dry mouth. She rolled onto her back, flinging an arm over her eyes.
Lesson learned. Never get into a drinking contest with an angel. Ever.
As much as she wanted to sleep, the only way to cure the hangover and be ready to hit the road with Jo and the boys was to get her feet on the floor and get moving. A hot shower, at least half a pot of the wonderfully strong coffee that Bobby brewed and she’d be..
Where the hell was she? This wasn’t any room she remembered, especially at Bobby’s place. Ellen whipped the blankets off, adrenaline spiking and cutting through the haze in her head as she quickly assessed the room and what she had on her. The knife was concealed under her jacket, the shotgun in the leather satchel she slung across her body.
She had to find the boys. She had to find Bobby.
She had to find her daughter.
