A Huge Tangent

So, I was forced to watch the fail that is known as Breaking Dawn last weekend. And after watching Jacob "imprint" on Reneesme (sp?), something occurred to me.
No rants, I promise )

That is a good question. While Hermione's moral compass seems to move to fit her needs rather than constantly point towards the straight and narrow, I am very reluctant to say that she would willingly let someone die if she could save them. That said, with someone like Rabastan or say Dolohov or any other Death Eater that indiscriminately killed/tortured/raped someone simply because they had the misfortune of being born to the wrong parents, I could see Hermione rejecting them knowing full well that she would cause someone else's death. I think for her, at least characteristically, she would have a great moment of pause, which would probably force the Death Eater to take a more drastic approach to having her as a mate. (I have seen stories where she is kidnapped and virtually Stockholm Syndromed into the relationship or turned darker somehow.) Ultimately, she is a character in a children's story, and if I remember right, she leaves the battle at Hogwarts without killing anyone even when it would have been the more productive thing to ( ... )

Okay, honestly, I can sort of see why girls might like the series. As far as I know, at the time it came out, there weren't many YA paranormal girl oriented books that "dealt" with sex, desire, etc etc. Also, it's soft porn. You can read it without feeling guilty for reading something naughty. Other than that, I don't know why people want to read them. The writing sucks, and even if some of the ideas were good ones, they were executed badly and were buried under the fail of other terrible ideas (sparkling? really?). When I originally read it back when it came out, I thought that it was somewhat humorous, if badly written, and that if someone had taken a great big red pen to the book, it could have been much better. However, with the subsequent novels, I am now convinced that nothing could have saved that series, lol ( ... )

I think you're cute, especially when you have too much time on your hands

Now did I find your non-rant educational, yes. I like that you pointed out the good and the bad about Hermione. I don't think most would have seen her darker side and I think it's one of the reasons she would have made a very powerful and unstoppable dark witch given the chance. Had she joined Voldemort, I think the world would have been gone. Harry doesn't realize how lucky he is to have her on his side.

It also confuses me why so many people don't make more dark!hermione fics when there is much more to work with there than good Hermione
I personally like Dark!Hermione wiht an even darker more powerful wizard. I don't think -- if this was rl -- Hermione would have been satisfied with Ron. she wouldn't have settled for a second rate wizard

Now maybe she would have gone for Harry, after Voldemorts soul was transfered to him during the Dark Lord's death... I can see that.

The end

As for your question:

No, I really don't think she would save someone she loathed. Hermione isn't someont to be bullied into anything. If she doesn't believe the person is worth saving, she won't save them. Death Eaters are the worst in her opinion, she would not save them.
I think the only time she would consider it is if it were Harry/Ron. Even then, she would probably try to find another way first.

The only way I can see Hermione saving someone she utterly loathes is if to condemn them to death would lead to her own demise.

She's not entirely self-sacrificing, our Hermione.

BUT in agreeing to such a mating, I think she would do a LOT of research, and find a way to bind the Death Eater's capability to do evil, which would lead her down a Dark path herself. Interesting.

Alas, I've sworn off writing Darkfic for a long time.

That's what I've noticed about Hermione. In order to stop Dark wizards and their nefarious plans, Hermione tends to do dark(ish) things herself.

It's good to hear I'm not the only one with this idea of a wholly good Hermione floating around in my head space. Sometimes I feel like I read a completely different series than everyone else, lol.

Why have you sworn off writing dark!fic, out of curiosity?
