It's been a rough couple of days.

He'd been on a job in Monterrey, a particularly unpleasant job in Monterrey, and while there was no literal blood to wash off of his hands, there were more than a few things he wished he could wash out of his mind.

The thing about people is that power exacerbates them; it doesn't 'corrupt' everyone, but it does ( Read more... )

"You are making a terribly sour face," came from the corner where Narcissa was sitting, her own glass of what was probably wine in her left hand.

It was still a bit strange, though, to see him doing what was certainly not moping. A man of his visible age certainly shouldn't be able to grump.

He raised an eyebrow, and his own glass, to her before gesturing across the table that she might come and sit with him if she wished to. He could not manage charm at the moment, though, even as the corner of his lips twitched in an attempt. He could conjure many things, but a smile was beyond him tonight.

"I have had a rather unpleasant day," he said, considering his words carefully even as he considered how he considered them. 'Unpleasant'? Seeing the state of the wizard victims? Dealing with the wizards?

Unpleasant was the least of it.

"I wish you a good evening."

"As good, I suppose, as expected." She did slide out from the spot where she was sitting in the booth and walk over to the other side of Seph's table, however.

Misery loves company, after all. And Seph does seem to be one of the few people that she gets on well with.

"And I would not ask you to elaborate on your unpleasantness."

He sipped at the wine before even attempting a response.

"I wouldn't tell you if you asked. It's nice having someplace where people don't look at you askance."

Kira had a similar look on his face; he was deep in thought and his expression tended to reflect every emotion he felt. He never learned to school his moods down, not unless he was concentrating very, very hard. It was his second day in this place, and he'd wandered around some of the areas in this space.

But he had to rest often; there was something about this world that made his body feel heavy. He wasn't in a gigai, so he didn't know how to explain that feeling. He wearied more quickly than he was used to.

Once he emerged from his thoughts, he noticed the other. "... Hello." The shinigami captain said, with a hint of a smile.

The 'hello' deserved a greeting in return. It took Seph a few moments before he could muster that either.

"Good day," he said, figuring that perhaps it was someone's good day.

Kira understood that this man probably didn't want to talk or be disturbed; but the quiet pressed in on him and he needed something to distract from his thoughts.

He held his cup of water with both hands; he hadn't been able to sleep in this place, restless and ill-at-ease. Never one adept at conversation, but he tried.

"I'm Kira."

Seph was extremely adept at conversation. And at stuffing his own concerns aside to be pleasant. He held out a hand to the other gentleman.

"Joseph McCauley. Most people call me Seph, though. A pleasure to meet you."
