He had said to meet him outside of the bicycle shop, and so Marley obliged. She was relatively prompt, trying to hide it, but still quite excited to finally meet this boy who so many deemed a training legend. She was strong in her own right, of course, but Red still seemed quite far beyond her reach. Finally she saw him. She slowed down her walking to a normal speed, doing nothing more than raise her hand up in greeting, nodding at the boy curtly.

Red had to blink for a second, making sure the approaching girl was waving to him and not someone else. His practical sense advised him to wait for a bit and observe, but he could almost hear his mother's words in the back of his mind scolding him for being rude to a lady. Red suppressed a mental flinch.

He pushed himself off of the wall to stand straight and he mimicked the motion back. Stepping out from underneath the awning, he met her in her approach and gave her a tiny, welcoming smile. "Hi. Marley, right?" he extended his hand towards her. "I'm Red." He was sure she knew that already, but it wouldn't do any harm to make sure they were both who they were.

She took his hand gently in hers (although it fit much better than Surge's giant one did), and shook it. She nodded slowly, returning his smile with a tiny, almost invisible one of her own. This was Red. And he was a sweetheart. She felt... relieved.

"Yes," She replied, softly, "That's me... it's very nice to meet you."

"Same here," he nodded back. As he released her hand, Red tilted the brim of his hat up just a little to look at her body frame. She seemed thinner and paler compared to travelers Red normally ran into, but the same could be said for himself. He noticed she wasn't chatty either, but looked him straight in the eye, so it wasn't from shyness.

He blinked in realization. They probably had a lot in common, he thought. The idea gave Red some comfort; he hoped they would make the best of their travels together this way.

"If you're ready, the bike on the right is yours," he pointed to the newer bicycle. "We can start south from here."

In a snap, Marley's emotionless expression was back, obviously set at ease by Red's willingness to make the extra trip.

"If you don't mind..."

She pointed to the south.

"We head that way... is that right?"

Red nodded at her gesture as he adjusted the rim of his cap and his backpack straps. "Route 5 is a pretty easy ride. It takes us to Saffron City. I can show you around while we're there. You'll want to know where the Magnet Train station is."

He sorted his memory for any other important features. "There's a gym if you want to take the Kanto badge challenge. And there's a good dojo for practice matches. A lot of psychics live there, too."

Red thought about introducing her to a young lady who was extremely talented at mimicking others, but he wasn't sure if Marley would find that humorous or pointless. He figured if they run into her, he'll use that chance, but it wasn't necessary to seek her out.

"If you're all set, let's go." He set one foot on the raised pedal.

She gave another very small smile, and nodded. The Kanto challenge... it did seem like something she would like to try, someday. For now though, the whole adventure that came with exploration was more than enough for her.

"... Ready." She brought her foot up to the pedals and set off behind him.

The first thing she noticed was how... perfect the weather was. When taking a bike ride through Sinnoh, chances are that all the rushing air would be just a little too chilly for total comfort. Kanto was much more like spring, the air was breezy and comfortably warm. She turned her head slightly to her companion.

"... Which route is this... ?"

Red slowed his pace down realizing that even a normal route like this would be a new path for Marley. He had traveled through it enough times that he never blinked an eye at his surroundings. It would be a good time for him to take a new glance. He turned to look at her, "Route 5. Let's stop here for a second ( ... )
