For what he fancied to be the four hundredth day in a row (or so), Takumi opened his eyes to darkness. The inside of Mount Coronet was a dim place, and wherever Shun had gone with his Houndoom and his torch, it was probably the only tunnel for miles with any light in it.

He stretched, not moving from the floor, then held an arm up in the air. "Spacefriend?" he said, soft voice echoing around him. In just a moment, he felt the cushy pads at the end of his Drifloon's arms, brushing his fingertips. He took hold and stood slowly - the sides of these tunnels were shorter than the center, and he couldn't count how many times he'd hit his head trying to stand up in here.

As he got to his feet, he could hear the greetings of his Pokémon around him. All of them but his Slowpoke were out of their balls. (Wumpus was too lazy to trek along with them. Takumi wished he could get into a Pokéball sometimes, himself, and make Shun carry him around that way. It seemed like an easy life.) They crowded close, his Bayleef bumping her head into him for a petting.

"Good morning, Little Foot," he said absently. It was too dark for Shun to be very close, and if he started wandering around now, they'd miss each other for days again. With a sigh, he said, "Emma, Delancey? Could you guys go look for Shun? We'll stay right here, so make sure you don't get lost, okay?"

The Butterfree and Beautifly trilled in unison and fluttered away, the whisper of their wings fading slowly in rings of echoes. Takumi sat back down, pulling Spacefriend with him. "He'd better not have gotten out without me," he said around a yawn. "He'll never come back if he finds snow out there."
