I'm going for a conference, but hopefully will get to stay there at least an extra week just to explore.

To ask for more money:

Find a cost of living calculator and see how much more expensive DC is than Rochester. (It's probably at least 50% more). Take into account that you'll probably need to buy a car some time during your post-doc. Also take into account health insurance for Bogey. And air-fare to get back to Rochester/NYC every now and again.

When I moved from Rochester to Irvine, I thought they were paying me tons of money. Turns out it was much less than I needed...
