So, Fred ran a truly kicking conclusion to season 1 of his game yesterday, with our headquarters getting blown up, big plot reveals and all the other things that you might want to expect. One of the most notable things about the game is that we managed to include one of the players remotely. He's in NYC, but we set up video chat with the camera ( Read more... )

Cool.

We were doing the 1/2 HP thing for awhile, after I found that combats were dragging out way too long. That worked, but we found that half had them falling a little too fast (lots of Ranger one-shots), so we also settled on 2/3rds, and that seems to be working.

Did you have any issues keeping the cammed-in player socially connected? So far I've only ever done pure voice Skype-in, and that had the problem of the calling-in player being unable to pick up on when people were about to speak, so constantly accidentally interrupting. Wondering if having visuals helped with this - I'd assume it would, but only to a degree.

There were maybe 2 or 3 stumbles like that over the course of a 6 hour game, so I'd say the video element worked pretty well. Then again, there's also the initiative system at work, when fights broke out -- it was clear when it was his turn to go/speak, in those situations.

There were some rooftops that the giant was as tall as. A couple characters got up there to do their work. Another used his spear and the stunting rules to pole-vault and attack the beast that was situated on the giant's head. Skills were definitely used.

As the athletics/acrobatics monkey of the group, yeah, there was much climbing and jumping. I actually had one amusing turn - i was th eone to land the killing blow on the Grell while the warlord was still dangling from it, and I still had my move action, so I tried to do a cool acrobatic leap to get under him before he fell. I rolled a 1.

Now, tellingly, a foll of 1 still gets me a 15 result, so I avoided injury to all but my pride (ending up prone, on the street, one space short of my destination) but it was a magnificent failure.
