if i ever play a live gig thing at velvet lounge i'd play nice quiet ambient stuff with some cool beats., and not have anything too loud.. also i dont want to be up on stage, i'd probably be sitting at one of the tables with my pc and keyboard or something.. yes indeed

Now, this may be a tall order, but I can but try. Can you explain to me what a pad is? At least musically. I have been reading much about them, and tutorials on making them but it still doesn't click to what they are? I am assuming they are related to funky drawn out ambient sounds, but who knows :)

generally: long synth noises with drawn out attack and decay envelopes. usually fairly smooth sounds aswell.
drench them in reverb

basically the electronic form of strings.

yeah they're like any string-style sounds with long attack and long release.. see most of aphex twin's selected ambient works II for what i'm talking about,. and a lot of early autechre stuff too..
