a month ago (Friday the 13th in Feb) my BF's day went like this: 
Bad News:
They are doing layoff's at work
Good News: 
Not in his department
Bad News: 
everyone else is taking a 4% pay cut
Good News:
everyone is getting an extra week vacation (and still have a job) and they "promised" no more layoffs this year...
