The hypocrisy is astounding

So Clinton is getting flack for the comments he made regarding the commutation of Scooter Libby's sentence. And I can totally see that. Clinton was a cheat and a liar, that's for sure. He also pardoned a lot of folks. Still, I seem to recall the Bush campaign and Republicans in general going on about new standards and accountability and ( Read more... )

well said too, altho as u probably know i believe in a strong federal gov't regulating corporate profit and watchdogging safeguards.

FEMA and other federal agencies worked, reasonably if not excellently, when there was an admin. that was interested in them doing so. the rightwing and the neocons seem intent on dismantling as much as they can so chaos is inflicted (see Katrina and FEMA etc.) in order to bolster the argument for "less gov't", while actually EXPANDING gov't oversee in areas suiting their bizarre agenda (see Terry Shiavo etc.).

the country needs a balancing act of states' rights and federal regulation.

I think it is entirely honorable to vote Libertarian at the federal level while choosing a different option at the state or local level.

I do think both major political parties have plenty of corruption to spare. It is always difficult to make the powers-that-be police themselves appropriately.

The main problem with criticizing Clinton by saying "well he pardoned a lot of folks" is that every President pardons a lot of folks, especially toward the end of his term. Very rarely do Presidents intervene on behalf of people who have been convicted of crimes committed on their behalf. That's what happened here, and that's why it's so disgusting.

The Founding Fathers had no problem with a pardon power generally, that's why it's in the Constitution. They did, however, have a problem with using it the way Bush did here.
