I, too, breathed a sigh of relief upon reading it. Being a bit of a science geek, I might pay the four bucks to read the entire article at the BMJ. It probably contains a lot of medical jargon that I don't understand, but what the heck? That's why we have dictionaries, right?
For all the bad press boxing gets about injuries--and, certainly, a lot of it is justifiable--in the aggregate, I have gotten banged up a lot worse playing football and basketball than I ever did in boxing. I've had injuries severe enough in those two sports to seek medical treatment for them; happily, that has not been the case in boxing. Of course, all my experience has been as an amateur. That's just one man's experience, of course, but you have probably talked with a lot of other boxers who have said the same thing.
