Casinos in Alabama

Every time I drive up to my parent's lake house in Jasper, AL, I drive through the barrage of bingo halls on Highway 78. Just the other day I was thinking of that scene in Casino, which seems off-putting when you first see it. The scene were DeNiro is talking about the collapse of what Vegas was and what it's becoming. To add to what Alex said, yeah my family (grandparents mostly) drive to Jasper about 3 times a week to go to those bingo halls. They're always begging me to go so I went with them one time a few months ago and it's primarily older people in there, as you would expect. My grandparents spend most of their social security checks in these places because they're 80 years old, they enjoy casinos, and it's a way for them to pass their time and get out of the house.

But it's not just my grandparents. It's aunts, uncles, most all my family loves going to casinos and it's really sickening to go to the casinos in MS and see hundreds of AL car tags in the parking lot and realize just how much money is being fed to another state's well-being because the conservative Christians in AL think we'll all go to hell if we do a little gambling.

I think a lottery is a grand idea. I just think it will never happen here.
