One of the big deals for us was attending the Competition for the "Piú bella Maschera del Carnevale". (Note: They use the terms "mask" and "costume" interchangeably, and not all costumes have masks.)

First, part of the winning group - four couples led by Tanja Schulz-Hess, who won the competition in 2007 and 2008 also. This is not a matter of ( Read more... )

OM-Freakin'-G! Reading her site I realized that Tanja was apparently also responsible for the hair dress, the cooking couple, the scuola couple, and the umbrella dress! All of which were on my A+ list.

Wouldn't it be great to live within easy traveling distance of Venice, and to have lots of friends willing to help out and wear your outfits at Carnevale? I have a hard enough time doing something like that for Norwescon, not to mention a US Worldcon.

Wow - those were all among the best costumes. She's certainly a fount of good ideas.

Of course, I now have an idea for a competition costume myself. I really wasn't interested in competing before, but, well, I think I have a really good idea . . . ;)

Hi Ladies, my hubby just found this in the net and I really would like to tell you how happy I am to read that people value, recognize und like the costumes I make (there is a bit tragic reason for this which I do not want to comment on now, but maybe we'll get a chance to talk one day). Yes, we are blessed to live so close to Venice and have a lot of friends there. My friends from the Veneto who I invited this year to join me in the carneval have mostly never attended it even if they live in the region. Can you imagine? We all had a blast and many of them said they'd like to go again. But next year I (promised myself (and my hubby) at least...:-) ) want to make only three costumes. My problem is that ideas jump on me every ordinary day in life and I would LOVE to make all those dresses become real. But, man, nine this year was really enough for the few days we had (cause I want to wear them all at least once). But I am sure it will be tough for me to chose for next season. And my 2 y.o. daughter also becomes more and more curious so ( ... )
