From David Waldman:
The new Republican "theory" of democracy:

GOP wins: "Mandate! Elections have consequences!"
GOP loses: "Tyranny! Fascism! Revolution! Secession!"

[Groans] all to painfully true. They are either bullies or victims, at least the crazier they act the more they drive away normals.

Oh, yes. Sadly, the latest crazy right-wing thing is talk of secession. The most recent worst offenders: Gov. Rick Perry of Texas on "state sovereignty", and how Texas has "the right to secede", aided and abetted by Glenn Beck - the guy who does fake-preacher-tears on Fox News.

And of course, looked at in the context of the renewed KKK/militia membership upswing, and the gun-stockpiling. . . I don't like it at all. And neither do rational folks in the government, which of course leads to DHS putting more of the dangerous-looking right-wing fringe groups on the "hate-group" watch list, and then Fox News etc. goes on a screaming spree about how the Gub'mint is out to get everyone on the right. ::urk::

*Nod*
Oddly, the gummint surveillance tools everyone's so worried about...
Were fostered or strengthened under Bush Jr. and a Republican-dominated congress.

There's just a ton of "reaping what they've sown" over there on the right.

"Elections have consequences". OK, so we had an election that they lost.

"We have to give up some civil liberties for safety". We told them that was a bad idea, but they rammed it through anyway. And now? Government is poking into their business. Yeah, well, we told you so, didn't we? We might even be trying to roll back some of that stuff, but we need a little actual bipartisan consensus on that, and they still think that makes them look "soft on defense", and they still try to wield that stick against us, too ( ... )
