I imagine that if a woman were to stand her ground, the doctor would cave on the significant other thing.

Either that or a strongly worded letter from a lawyer.

Because that is the craziest shit I have ever heard, and it has no legal backing whatsoever.

If a woman were to change her mind later, that's her problem, and her expense. Why on earth would the doctor give a shit who pays?

I'm cursing. This must bother me.

My presence WAS requested at the pre-op counseling for T.'s vasectomy. They wanted to make sure we both knew what was going on. Just saying. I'm all for "my body, my choice" though. I would appreciate my doctor giving me his advice, letting me know that the reversal is not covered, but after that it should be my choice, no matter my age or marital status.

I'm sorry, is the significant other a spouse, or does a woman now require the permission of her boyfriend/girlfriend to get a tubal?

WHAT THE HELL?????

Reminds me of the fact that many health plans do not cover the pill, but they will cover Viagra.

A consultation is a good idea, but ARGH! I share your outrage. She should just say that there is no S.O., though it's ridiculous that she should have to lie.

Welcome to America, land of the free. not.
