"Lewis went to Africa to educate, but ended up educating himself" was a great observation. A little cliche, but it captured a large part of this lecture quite well.

Your discussion on second, third, and forth hand experiences was also a neat summary of how we relate to Africa in the world and through Stephen Lewis.

I'm no teacher so take this as you want, but I did find it a little hard to find and identify some of the VAPID points. Audience was clear. But I wasn't sure which of the ideas were yours and which belonged to Lewis; or how they connected to each other.

I appreciate your emotional candor and honesty as you fund yourself "baffled ... and embarrassed ... [at your] own lack of compassion and ignorance on the hardships in Africa." I think most of us can relate which helps us connect to your post.

I am curious what it is about that last quote that inspires you to go out and do something?

It inspires me because I am highly motivated by the relationships and bonds of the people around me. I strive off that.

I think the main audience Lewis went for was just the general public. Anyone who would take the time to listen was his target audience. I think your blog was very good and honnest. I loved the ending quote you used and how you defined pandemic then related to it in your writing.

I agree with you! This piece was super inspiring, and I think the reason it was so effective was probably because of the “second hand experience” that you explain. I also really liked how you emphasized “pandemic”, which quite clearly should not be taken lightly.
