Blog #3: Suzuki - "Genetics After Auschwitz"

Do you think that there are any pseudo-science research going on today that needs to be dealt with in the same manner and magnitude that the holocaust went through? Like stem-cell research for example? I’m not saying that I agree or disagree with what research is being done now. But could it develop into something serious?

Nice to see you writing here again, Robbie. Is this for a class? It sounds like it, but I'm uni-starved and enjoyed it. I wonder if any scientist can be unbiased, unprejdudiced... I doubt it. Perhaps that is why Suzuki is arguing for a more comprehensive education for scientists including history, philosophy and morality. Do you think that making scientists aware of their position of power and responsibility would prevent what reoccurences of you have called 'pseudo-science'?

Yeah, it's for an english class. It really depends on what you define being biased as... Someone can have opinions, voice them, and be unbiased. It's when they cross the line. I think most scientists are aware of that line, but some of their opinions are still a bit unmoral. As for educating scientists in university... I think there should be some sort of morals and ethics class. Like, in business there is so manny components to do with ethics, because of so many unethical practices.
