Eighner’s audience is a very tough one to distinguish; since he makes many references to different demographics it is most likely to be all.  There is, though, a very strong emphasis on young adults and businesses. He describes what these two audiences throw out frequently.

I too know some students who have started practising freeganism, and completely agree with you: it is definitely catching on. Although he tries to divulge the fact that dumpster diving isn't as terrible as some people think it is, I do believe there is a very clear line between freeganism and the invasion of privacy. And so to answer your question, unless I found myself in the worst possible case scenario, homeless and desperate, I would not dumpster dive. I'm all for recycling but can not see myself enjoying scrounging through dumpsters as Eighner does.

I suppose if I ever had to Dumpster dive I would go through similar stages as outlined by Eighner, but I would not come to it easily. I don't think it is beneath me or anything, I just kinda feel like to me it would be cheating. Why pay when you can get it for free? Why buy something when you can have what someone else bought and threw out? I guess I see it as that old saying about stones at the lake, if everyone picks up stone and throws one in the lake soon there will be none left. We can't all be scavengers and I would rather leave that to people who have no other option. But maybe I just like stuff to much.

I think if i saw the right object i may consider dumpster diving. I would not do it for anything other then a personal object that i see and would think that i would have some value and use for said object.

I think you did a great job with this blog entry and to answer your question I dont think I would be dumpster diving, maybe if I did become homeless at some point in my life but other than that I wouldn't just be walking by a garbage and see something I like and take it. It doesn't seem right to go through people's trash, I don't think dumpster diving is bad some people have to do it in order to live but I just wouldn't do it.
