I know I never post. But I wrote this. And so I'm posting it. It's less than 200 words. Just so you know.

"Don't worry about the future, baby. Everyone is here for you, whenever you need us. So when you're feeling down, just remember that we'll all be waiting for you here out here on the porch, drinking whiskey and reminiscing."

Tears congregated at the corners of my eyes, lining up for the procession down my cheeks. It took me twenty-four long years to finally understand the mysterious phrase often used by the older generations of my father's side of the family. This mythical gathering of family on the porch, drinking whiskey and reminiscing always bemused me.

But, reading this note as I stand over my father's grave, I get it now. Which is good, because now that I'm alone, I know that everyone is there for me, whenever I need them. And whenever I'm feeling down, I'll remember that they're waiting for me out there on the porch, drinking whiskey and reminiscing.
