A Prayer for the President?

Often, when the subjects of religion and politics collide my first thought is of an important lesson my father taught me when I was very young. Every night, when he would come into the kids' room for evening prayers, he would include the president in his prayer. Obama has broken one of the last great white privlidge ceilings. I think that's what scares a lot of his opponents. More and more, the world they knew and understood is changing and disappearing and being replaced by something else.

Isolation is no longer possible, values are altering, and the old traditions are either mutating or vanishing.

They're afraid and angry at that fear.

As someone with a foot in each side, I understand that terror and that rage. It's a hot, hot fire that blazes whenever you watch the next genration use textspeech, or mangle history, or just act like like an idiot.

But you must either adapt or die. I'm willing to at least try to adapt.

The christian right in the US of A scares me, for reasons like this. It seems that fundamentalism is on the rise, and reason and logic are taking a backseat to hyperbole and scaremongering ( ... )
