Making Dick's Robin costume look badass

Aug 24, 2011 23:55

It has to be said that Dick's Robin costume was designed in 1940 for a 10 year old circus acrobat...

Once the puberty fairy hit hard though, it became a little more difficult to take entirely seriously. In the right hands it was sexy as hell (Thank you Messr's Giordano, Newton, Perez et al), but one rarely imagined Gotham, New Carthage or New York criminals exactly quaking in fear at the bare legs, feathered briefs and pixie boots of the Teen Wonder. (Though I'm not, of course, precluding any other emotionally based trembling they might undergo)

So it's always fun when an artist manages to make Dick look actually menacing. If they manage it whilst having him in the classic Burt Ward fist punching pose, it's even better.

So this Gary Shipman piece is seven shades of fun to me. Yes, it's not the grinning happy Dick I also love, but this showcases the other side of Dick, the badass fighter who, even as he looks at you, has worked out fourteen ways to knock your on your ass, and the only reason he hasn't done so yet is that he's working out which of the fourteen will be most satisfying.

Clicking on the image will take you through to his ComicArtFans page where it's for sale. Alas, out of my price bracket at present, but it's still more than slightly awesome!

robin, dick, robin: dick
