Guess what? Ashley might be coming back!
Of course, I haven't heard from her directly yet. They (they being the Secret Service agents who had stopped by the other day to get some of Ashley's things) said she was still recuperating (from what they didn't say), but had been making plans to come back here next semester. God I hope so. This place is so... empty without her.
It all started earlier this year, when, well, she didn't come home. I was already at home, and I was getting pretty worried that she wasn't back when I went to bed. I mean, she's usually here by 10 at the latest, unless I make her go out with me to party or something.
So anyway, when she wasn't back the next day, I was very concerned. I called her cell phone a few times, but it must've been dead, since it just skipped to the recorded message. I was about to call her parents (yeah, I know the president's phone number! It's so cool) when the doorbell rang. Guess who it was. The Secret Service. They told me that Ashley had gone to study abroad in Spain this semester, and that's what I was to tell anyone who asked, as a matter of national security.
That was a load of bull though. You could tell just by looking at them that they were lying. They seemed quite distressed, at least for secret service agents. They wouldn't even give me details, like how long she would be gone or what she would be studying. Besides, all of her stuff was still at the house, and she hadn't mentioned anything about leaving at all.
They left after a few minutes, and then I was left to wonder just what the heck actually happened to Ashley. Stupid government, covering everything up. They told me not to worry about it, but how could I not? My best friend and housemate had just like, disappeared from the face of the earth, for all I knew!
But life went on. Only a few people asked where she was, and I told them she was studying in Spain, and that was that. School went on like she was never there.
So a few weeks pass, and then I get a call from some Agent saying that "Ashley has returned from her studies in Spain." And I was like, "What? Already?" But they didn't really say much beyond that, so all I knew was that she was at home spending time with her family.
She still is now. She's been in some of the news broadcasts. There was even a mini news segment about her and her mom Christmas shopping after Thanksgiving (can anyone say slow news day?) She hasn't talked to me yet though, but it sounds like the thought of school is creeping back into her mind. Maybe she'll give me a straight answer on what happened to her...
Ah well. I better do some homework now. I have a paper due Monday... good thing I'm almost done. ;)
