Does anyone still have the functional hardware and software to read some 5 1/4-inch floppies and extract / translate some files to current editability ( Read more... )

;)

I am not certain, but we just might have your answer. We have the proper drive- seeing if it will work when tied in with a different machine around here may or may not work. but it would certainly be worth trying.

My husband says that he thinks that somewhere around here he has a copy on punchcard from 1974 that *he* put together.....

And that the John P. that you mentioned was once his room mate for a year.

Small world :)

(Does this mean I have to clean the house?)

I probably have the songbook that came from those punchcards, boxed up in my other room, that Dave, John and I used as source material. Any chance that those punch cards still have a cardreader and a compiler handy? {grin}

If the proper drive works, I can bring the disks and the other disks, and you're welcome to any scavenge-able software off of them. And as for cleaning your house: don't hurt anything on yourself getting it clean for me; it's not worth it to me; you'd be surprised what I'm willing to refuse to take offense at, in the messy-house department.
