Around the farm in August.

Sep 07, 2012 18:25

It's been a tough season for produce out on The Hill. The garden is struggling through relentless heat and humidity, suffering under substandard levels of nutrition, the result of years of my divided attention. It seems things thrive in alternate years, so the zucchini crop failed while the peppers plumped up, and the cucumbers went bitter while ( Read more... )

Great pictures, but did you have to yell at the cat before taking the picture? Ron Buckles

Yes! I re-started a sweater I had started a couple years ago. The mindless knitting part was great. I finished the entire body front and back, and then put it down again when I had to make a design decision. Serious creative block going on round these parts. I think I need to just knit a stockinette blanket or something.

Pictures u did ARE art! THe nice thing about an art background is that it helps u frame photos in the camera [instead of cropping later.] I had a bad crop year, but got 5 large butternut squash, which will keep well hanging in the basement. I took out my iris and moved them from wet ground to dry, so they should be happier; and I got dozens of rhizomes from a church friend. btw, did u know that KFI radio started as K-Farm-Information.

I figure composition is half the battle, and I don't feel challenged by composition. Now if I can just get the camera to focus properly and get my hands to hold still, I'll be alright.

Very interesting about KFI. If they gave out more farm information I might listen to more than one of their shows. ;-)

I amazed that u listen to ANY KFI-- which? I really like "The Jesus Christ Show" Sun. AM though I don't listen regularly anymore.
U might need a tripod. There are many available inc a monopod that doubles as a walking stick. Ur hands are never still; a delicate tremor I associate with the nerves of a fine lady. I guess this is a trad Southern idea.
BTW, we are coming to SoCal in late Oct and I hope to come to FIDM to see u. What is ur schedule [assuming u want to see ME!]

I love Bill Handel. I don't have time to really listen to the show per se, but he's my morning alarm so I catch a few minutes here and there in between snoozing. I really love Handel on the Law on Saturdays. His manner makes me laugh the minute I wake up which is a nice way to start the day. I also enjoy Coast to Coast but it doesn't really fit into my schedule anymore so I haven't actually listened to it in years.

I would love to see you in October, and I can't wait to show you all we've done in the Library! It's a much more pleasant place these days. ;-) I'm there wednesdays through saturdays. Shoot me an email when you have an idea of your itinerary.

Bill Handel is a hoot. I can't listen to Coast to Coast right now due to my earphones not working right. I used to have it on all night to help me sleep.
I will definitely let you know our plans asap.!!

Sometimes you just need to start with a clean garden canvas. It will be exciting to have a fresh start. Good luck with and hugs from the east coast.

Yes, I think it will be good for me, and if the solarization works it will be nice to be able to put the tomatoes anywhere I want rather than in the few places I haven't yet noticed wilt disease.
