Norman live would be something else, no doubt. Isokoski is more along the lines of Schwarzkopf and Fleming. I can't wait to hear these songs when she sings them with the SSO in November at the Esplanade!

I guess it is a matter of preference when it comes to Strauss' last four songs..
Each singer brings with her a different interpretation. They all phrase so differently! Such beauty...
I myself prefer Schwarzkopf's voice. It's so much more intimate to me. Especially for this song. Norman is just that slightly powerful for me hehe.. but she is no less musical and I simply go weak when she stretches that pause after the climax..simply amazing.
Both are highly recommended! I guess i would love to hear Isokoski sing the last four songs here in november. Can't wait =D

I have to confess my favourite versions of this piece are : Janowitz, Leontyne Price (her phrasing is a bit off in the 1st mvt though, but I love her dark smoky voice), and Jessye "Normous".
I find Schwarzkopf to be too "prim and proper", esp. her last version with Szell.
Already bought tics to Isokoski, but not holding my breadth.I'm sure SSO would screw it up;-)

Voice quality is rich, and she managed to keep it under total control. Good breathing technique even.
