WEEK 05: Voting.

May 20, 2008 16:14

The following people did not have any byes left and have been eliminated from the competition: clinicallybored.

THIS ISN'T THE FINAL SHOWDOWN. However, the winner from this will have an advantage in the final showdown which will be next week. Explanatory post will follow this voting.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ THE RULES CAREFULLY. If you do not vote properly, I CANNOT count your vote.

VOTING RULES:
> Voting will last approximately 48 hours. The results will go up on Thursday May 22nd, around 5 PM (EST). (Friday May 23rd, 9am NZ time) You are not required to vote, but it would definitely be appreciated.

> You do not need to be a participant to vote.

> Vote for your LEAST FAVOURITE (or lesser quality) drabble. Vote according to the quality of the drabble, NOT personal style preferences. (Keep the words "I don't like..." out of your votes. We want valid reasons based on actual quality.) Please try to be unbiased in your votes. Keep in mind that the writers will probably be reading the reasons for your vote. Try to be constructive in your criticism, rather than saying that the drabble sucks.

> Comment to this post with your vote for ONE (1) LEAST LIKED drabble. With this vote, you MUST provide a reason for your vote. If you do not provide an explanation as to why you've voted the drabble off, your vote WILL NOT be counted. If I find that your reasoning is biased toward an individual writer or an individual style you may not like, your vote will NOT be counted. Comments are screened, and you will have the option to view the comments your drabble received after the voting is over. They will remain anonymous.

> After you vote for the one lesser quality drabble, you'll be voting for your ONE FAVORITE DRABBLE. You don't have to give a reason, although you can if you like. ONLY CHOOSE ONE FAVORITE.

Here's two examples of how to vote:
#05 - The unusual tense usage is distracting.
or perhaps
#01 - Characterisation could be improved; Marian is unlikely to use Southern slang.

The prompt can also be considered - how skillfully did the writer respond to it?

FAVORITE
#02

And the form (just copy and paste what's in the box, replace the #00's with the correct numbers, and replace 'Reason' with the explanation for your vote).

Voting Off:
#00 - Reason

Favorite:
#00 - Reason (providing an explanation is optional, but you must choose a favorite.)

DRABBLE 01

You remember his face the night you told him Bonchurch would be his. You were dirty, exhausted, staring up at cold and distant stars. But it was all forgotten when that disbelieving grin spread across his face.

You remember the whisper of his sword through the air and the hot spray of Saracen blood on your cheek. You'd lost count of how many times he'd saved your life, how many times you'd fallen into each other's arms, weak-kneed with relief.

You remember his constant, steady presence as the world faded in and out from fever. All moments you'd forgotten--no, pushed aside. Not consciously, perhaps, but out of necessity at first and then, you can see now, out of habit.

A thousand other moments flash through your mind, moments of impatience, reprimand, condescension. Then his face in the firelight just hours ago, breaking your heart as you'd broken his.

You would give anything for the time to heal this hurt. But the truth, and it is terrible, is that this may be the one wrong you can never right. Dawn is near, and death is almost certain.

DRABBLE 02

You’re standing in some kind of square, even though you’re in a fortress. Everything’s made of stone-the plaza, the walls of the buildings, the battlements. So you’re surprised to smell smoke. You look for Robin, running from this room to that, because you MUST get him to safety. He’s nowhere to be seen. He’s left you behind. In fact, they’ve ALL left you behind-you’re completely alone. The smoke’s getting heavier, and now the flames are poking through the roofs, through the open windows and doorways. Soon you’re surrounded by flame, and you can’t find a way out, and it’s getting hotter and hotter, and harder to breathe, and WHY DID HE ABANDON YOU?

You awake with a gasp, completely disoriented-why is it cool instead of hot? Dark instead of glaring? Your heart’s pounding. You’re sweating. You breathe slowly, counting each breath…concentrating…reciting the facts to yourself: For you, the war is over. You’ve been in fortresses and you’ve even made them burn, but always got free. Most of all, you’ve never been abandoned. Not there, not here.

It works. You lie back down. Just as you did the night before, and will do again and again.

That's all, folks.
