It's all Richard Wagner's fault

It’s much later than it should be.  And it’s all Richard Wagner’s fault.  Tonight’s Live from the Met was Tristan and Isolde.  I find Wagner a little trance-inducing:  all those big voices going at one another hammer and tongs.*  And going and going and going, hammering and tonging.  And you know that, of course, what is the single thing everyone ( Read more... )

OPERA!!! anonymous March 23 2008, 01:41:55 UTC
... and after I got all excited, I checked the BBC Radio 3 Listen Again thing, and the opera isn't available on it. Grrr. HOWEVER-- a few weeks ago the library sent out a campuswide email saying that they were getting rid of all their records, and if anyone wanted something, to come and take it. I more than happily obliged, and took way too many records. I brought about half of them home with me-- and one of them is, I believe Tristan and Isolde, or at least selections from T&I. So- here's my question-- my uncle loaned us this fabulous machine he bought that will take your record and transfer the music to your computer as a digital file. If you wanted, I could do this, and then email you the music. If you want it. Even though I'm sure you already have it, probably. Same goes with TRAVIATA. And several others I grabbed-- not entirely sure what everything is, but if you are interested, let me know and I'll do what I can. Of course, I am going back to school tomorrow night, and tomorrow IS Easter, so I don't know how much ( ... )

You could maybe post about it if you find a really gorgeous recording of something? :)

Sure! It'll have to wait till I go home again though. Because that it where my record player is. And almost all of my records-- except for the crateful under my bed that I didn't have room for on Friday morning when my mom picked me up to drive home.

But I'd be more than happy to!

It was 85° with 19%rh here today. In March. March, I say. Perhaps we can split the difference.

I am a camellia idiot - we have one, it's bright pink, and it's probably pretty old because it has grown up through the arms of the big cereus cactus in front of the house. I should figure out what variety it is, one of these years.

Hugs and hopes for warmer weather for you.

Die Frau is kind of amazing, but it needs a good production.

High protein diets are well documented to make some dogs hyper so extra starch they can tolerate is gooood. It can have a calming effect, but you may not have seen much evidence of that LOL

************ I suddenly don't even want to THINK about a high protein diet.

Been fighting lj's scrapbook and did upload some pictures, but they're not organised how I wanted and they seem sort of small (puzzled frown) so I spent ages messing...

*********** Where are they?!? Couldn't find them, but I know that's me being stupid.. . .

**How** many dogs do you have???

Stupid lj (blows raspberry) - pictures appear if you go to scrapbook and hit recently updated. They do come up larger but you haver to click until they do. (I will win, I will win). Not all my dogs & cats (none of the ponies) are there yet, but it is a start :) (whispers) I've got 11 dogs (looks shifty).

Current dogs in the pictures so far are Noodles, Hazel & Elsa so only 8 more to go :)

ELEVEN!!!???!!!?! ***ELEVEN*** DOGS??!!!!!!

[goes away and lies down for a while. comes back]

And by the photos (which I EVENTUALLY found, no thanks to lj, not a mention of a scrapbook in sight, except mine, which is empty) I assume they all live in the house with you!!???!!!!!! (Oh, the ENNEAD! I love Jan Mark!) And if those are MINI bulls, what the heck are the MAXI ones like?!? I've *met* a few bull terriers . . . indeed they were on my short list when I was contemplating the possibility of a *dog* instead of another furry alien from another planet, because they're funny and charming and they're all George Booth dogs and I LOOOVE George Booth. But I was put off by the whole 'will eat other dogs for lunch' thing. I take it you've found a way to socialise them effectively?!?

( . . . muttering to herself . . . ELEVEN. I can't . . . I can barely . . . TWO are . . . aaaaugh. . . .)

Happy Easter for you folks tomorrow. I will be stuck in here translating (a miserably boring legal translation) so in the afternoon a candle will be lit and prayers said to facilitate a bell ringing hellhound loving, rose obsessed author in Southern England that we are all rather fond of (if only in her creations and her virtual self): thanks for letting us know them. Best of luck with the quarter peal. Think of it as more time to get it right, rather than higher chances of getting it wrong.

Funny you should mention Tristan and Isolde because some people and I are getting together next week to watch the entire thing (on tape, since I'm not sure if it's possible to go to a the real thing). I'm sorry it dragged! It's one of my favorites. But then again I've had every single note of the orchestra, every little nuance/change in tone, key, pitch, etc etc drilled into me by my musicology teacher, I can't help but like it. I think once you know it so well, the 5 hours go by much faster. :)

Happy Easter! (It snowed here too (a foot at least) but melted within hours.)
