Dog links

I’ve been downstairs at the cottage most of the evening struggling with the Downstairs Laptop.  (Peter played bridge tonight so I came back here from Almost Sacred Wednesday Bell Practise*).  I don’t feel it has any call to be as tiresome as it has chosen to be tonight, but I have one or two moral imperatives left and one of them says that you don ( Read more... )

I'm so glad the hellhounds are better - and long may it continue! (what lovely names Darkness and Chaos are!) Sassi (cat) is (thank Heaven) healthy (I feel superstitiously reluctant to write that...), and since I DON'T ( ... )

Oooh, what is it in Urdu?

Oh, dear!

Well, the verb would be (here goes!) "chanakhna" - it's a horribly difficult word to transcribe so as to give even a remote idea of how it is pronounced. This makes it sound as if I could actually write it in Urdu - which I can't. I can neither write nor read Urdu - I've learnt the alphabet (which is mostly the same as Arabic, only there is a letter in Urdu for P, which the Arabic does not have) several times, but as soon as the letters are put together - I'm lost! Just a curve or something of the letter remains with a dot or so or whatever else and it's hopeless. I've finally decided to blame my visual disability - it has to be good for something! (And it may actually be true...

Chanakha. It would make a great name. And it means--a little flap of the hand (or paw)?

I'm stuck inside writing papers tonight, so I will do something useful and light a candle for the hellhounds. *sends virtual chocolate*

You are off to a good start since they actually ate their food with the glittery purple bits in it--you were saved having to push capsules down their throats . . .

I am a HUGE fan of George Booth and had one of the original Booth bull terrier tee shirts until it fell apart after 20 years or so. Have you tried searching CartoonBank for your favorite Booth cartoon? Annoyingly (because I clipped it from The New Yorker about 25 years ago) my all-time favorite one has not yet appeared there. (And I would have to spring for a frameable print if it showed up, so it's probably just as well.) You probably know Charles Barsotti's stuff, but for anyone who doesn't, some of his pup cartoons are on his web site--www.barsotti.com.

"Two layers of insulation over the door"--do they not have/use storm doors in England? Or are you in a Historical Cottage whose exterior may not be altered?

I was reading your post this morning over breakfast (I am trying - without much success to wean myself off staying up til four in the morning) and I have to say: Well done Ms. McKinley! Links galore: now you want us on the internet for four hours looking at all of them. I resisted (well not entirely, looked at two and will be back when I have more time to look at the rest).
But reading the comments on your previous post, I thought in so many ways what a wonderfool thing this internet is, time wasting, idiot full, not-always-working-the-way-it-should technological creation though it may be, that creates small tenuous communities of support and genuine feeling.
I hope this medicine works, that the hellhounds continue to devour it up and it makes them as healthy on the inside as they look on the outside.
On an aside, I have now typed up a detailed dolmades recipe and whenever you feel like it, just let me know and I will post it.

The dog links were FANTASTIC! They certainly perked up my day.

Here's hoping everyone is feeling better today.
