Corey came to bed late after reading in the sitting room. As sometimes happens, he left the light on in the sitting room.

At about 3:30 or 3:45, we woke as the doorbell was ringing. We looked at each other, then Corey went to answer the door. I could hear him talking to a man. Then he yelled back at me to find out where the phone was (it was in the bedroom, not on the charger). He came to the bedroom, and then left with the phone.

I put on my bathrobe. When I got to the kitchen, there where two other men in the kitchen, one of whom was holding a bloody hand in the sink. Corey was on the phone telling the 911 operator that he needed an ambulance and the police. He asked the man questions and relayed the answers to the operator.

It seems that the man, Kevin Alexander, and his brother were walking home from meeting friends downtown. They were walking on a href="http://www.ci.olympia.wa.us/en/city-services/parks/parks-and-trails/olympia-woodland-trail.aspx">the Olympia Woodland Trail, which is not too far from us. It is farther than the park I usually walk in, more towards downtown.

It seems the other man, Sam, lives there. We've met Sam before. A few months ago, he walked down our street to Buzz's house. He had an adorable black kitten (named Sash, with her own bandanna) on his shoulder, and let us pet her. It was hard not to recognize Sam, because all the tattoos on his face.

They said that some guy jumped out of the bushes, yelled and sucker-punched Sam in the head. As he went down, Kevin jumped in to protect Sam and he and the other guy rolled down a ravine. Kevin had grass and palm fronds stuck in his hair. The other guy bit Kevin on the thumb and then ran away up the other side of the ravine.

They at first thought that they were okay, and just the victims of a weird event, but Kevin started to realize that he needed medical help. They first walked to Buzz's house, but Buzz wasn't home. They saw the light on in our house, so came over to us to get help. They apologized several times for bothering us. I gave Kevin a clean towel to put direct pressure on his thumb, but when he tried, it was too painful. I also told him that he should hold his hand above his heart, but he didn't want to drip blood all over everything

Kevin thought that he might have lost part of his thumb, but after the paramedics poured a bottle of water over it, it looked like it would be fine after some stitches. They bandaged it up tight and told him to hold it above his heart, so I do remember something from first aid classes.

Kevin left in the ambulance. I suggested to Sam that he might want to go with him, since he had received a blow to the head, but he didn't want to. He said that he was fine, and that he wanted to get home and take care of his cat. He had bought some cat food on the way home. I figured that if he didn't want to be around the authorities, that was his business, so I dropped it.

A call came over the radio on one of the officer's belts. Someone was reporting that someone was throwing things at cars not far from where we live. They thought at first it was kids shooting paint guns, but they weren't sure. Was it the same person? Who knows?

The police took a report from Kevin and Sam, and then left. We invited Sam in for some water, since he was pretty shaky. He didn't stay long. He said that his cat (who is six months old now), is well trained and never goes far from his tent, but he did want to make sure she was fed and okay.

Corey made sure all the doors were locked. Then we went to bed, but didn't go to sleep for a while.

Victoria and I went to the McDonald's because I owed her money for washing Amanda last night. I was watching MST3K version of the movie "Mitchell", which gives anything done by Ed Woods a run for being the worst movie I have ever seen. Victoria was watching it too, but agreed to give Amanda her bath.

We then went to the library, and on to Fred Meyers, where I bought two fans. It was miserably hot today, and tomorrow doesn't look much better.

Corey set up the lawn sprinkler on the front yard for the kids to play in. I slathered sun screen all over them (Alex got a bad sunburn playing in a neighbor's pool last week). They ran around for about five minutes, then decided they were bored.

I made Parmesan chicken for supper, and then Alex and Corey went to see "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince". They haven't come back yet. Amanda watched several episodes of the Powerpuff Girls (on Demand) while I watered the plants on the back deck. This involves filling an old gallon milk jug with water from the kitchen sink and taking it to the deck--over and over and over. The plants really needed it.

The boys just came home. I must ask them how the movie was.

It was good, but quite a bit different from the book. And apparently they discussed prime numbers and exponentials on the drive home. My boys...(Smiling with pride)

I am going to plan some meals and do some grocery shopping on-line, then go to bed.

hobo attack, another friday, hot weather
