Where's the honor in modern combat? When you distance war, you remove its personalization. Hiding behind an executioner is shameful. Where's the honor in condemning a man to death if you cannot look him in the eye at the moment of your triumph over him? What would the meaning of a more personalized style of war be? i mean, i dont particularly think i can ever assign a meaning to any kind of war, be it mechanized or otherwise.

War is the same as it always was. It's fought by the same people on behalf of the same people against the same people for the same ends as it always was. Namely, by the poor on behalf of the rich against a different poor (on behalf of a different rich) for the appropriation of property. Things like "duty," "honor," and "glory" are just opiates that help people feel better about sacrificing their lives for other people's property and/or greed.
