Yeah, me too. From what I gather, corruption is just out of control there. Try this post from someone with family there. There's a couple of pretty informative links in the comments.

Here's another one.

From that link, some context on the weapons that protestors have:

"It's very hard to get even hand guns in KG.

This was not even the police; our common police does not carry automatic weapons.

These were most likely the presidential guard, defending the key buildings in the capital.

So yes, they were taken from the police/presidential guard"

What I've read so far sounds like at least most of the guard were using tear gas and rubber bullets, which is probably why it's like 50-100 people dead, rather than thousands, so I'm very glad for that.

It's interesting to watch something that seems so quick and spontaneous. But revolution is the easy part: it's fixing the underlying problems that's hard. If they use what's left of the existing governmental structure, they'll face the same problems, and building a whole new governmental structure is really, really difficult.

I wish them luck, in any case.
