No Shoes

Leave your shoes by the door
We don't need laces anymore
Take your dresses down
Add them to the bed sheet rope
Let's climb from your window
Our bare feet upon the soft loam
Sailing through the summer night
Traveling by the light of the moon
Shadows holding hands
Trailing on and on behind

Removing the dagger from the sheath
How can you say I never loved you?
Pushing steel to the flesh beneath
Let's leave them all behind
Removing the dagger from the sheath
How could you say I would never come through for you?
Pulling the blood from the flesh beneath
Let's stain our hides, let's stain our hearts, let's stain our knives
Removing the dagger from your teeth
How can you say I never loved you?

We walked around the lake,
A circle, the coil of a snake
The breeze cut through
Our clothing and our words
Chopping and mixing our utterances
Could you even hear me wish it wasn't so?
Why do we even mention the cold?
Float,
Float on the wind
They can't touch us again
By poison or asp
We will pass
We will pass
We will escape
Melt into my arms

Removing the dagger from the sheath
How can you say I never loved you?
Pushing steel to the flesh beneath
Let's leave them all behind
Removing the dagger from the sheath
How could you say I'd never come through for you?
Pulling the blood from the flesh beneath
Let's stain our hides, let's stain our hearts, let's stain our knives
Removing the dagger from your teeth
How can you say I never loved you?
