I'm pretty much a Grinch when it comes to Christmas -- I love seeing the way my kids enjoy the Holiday, but for me personally...I'm usually just glad when it's over.

And now that Thanksgiving is over, there's really nothing to stop the invasion of...Christmas music!!! [[[insert horror film sound FX here]]]

So I was curious...

Ah man, I have a killer Christmas music playlist (though I actually wait until Christmas Eve to break it out) - maybe a podcast is in order to save folks from the clutches of horrible Christmas music. Anyway, I frickin love "Marshmallow World" by Darlene Love: http://tinyurl.com/2brz65

Can't go wrong with the Phil Spector Christmas record. That's one of the few that doesn't annoy me.

There are a couple versions of O Holy Night which make me cry if I'm in just the right sentimental frame of mind. Ave Maria too.

I hate almost every indie-rock revision of a Christmas classic.

We put on a Nat King Cole Christmas disc while putting up our tree this year. He does a good "O Holy Night."

As for the indie-rock versions, they usually just make me laugh. Especially the Cocteau Twins' "Frosty the Snowman" and the Fall's "Hark the Herald Angels Sing."

also, when i was in the high school chorus, we sang a religious song that really tugged the heart string. i was far from religious in high school, but that song sounded so damn beautiful, always got to me. i just remember this part: "love came down quietly touching the earth, the night of his savior's birth. and heaven and earth sang a sweet lullaby, sing hallelujah..."

it's hard not to love any song with a prominent Tuba.

and, maybe it's the result of living in San Antonio for so long, but listening to Feliz Navidad is like having a rake being dragged across my spine.

i really really liked that BAND AID "do they know its christmas" song. especially the end part when the entire chorus is singing..
