What you're saying is so very true. SO. VERY. TRUE!
It's funny, though, the great dissonance between what has become EMO, and what developed from EMO. All the bands that are writing themselves off as EMO today very much follow your decription: bland, structureless drivel.
But, if you look at bands such as At The Drive-In, Drive Like Jehu, and Fugazi- all of whom site eachother as influences, as well as a steady progression of influences that link back to what was originally considered EMO- you get something completely different: developed song structures, well written lyrics (though not always meaningful), and generally energetic music.
Keep in mind, though, this is all just one man's opinion (mine). The bands I sited for having such qualities are arguable, but the difference between those such bands and EMO seems quite evident to myself. Just wanted to point that out.
Drive Like Jehu and Fugazi are bands that I regularly listen to. They're more math rock than emo I think, but that's kind of emo, too. I really like those bands, though.
1. you HATE emo THAT MUCH, but I already knew that. 2. Emu is NOT pun-guin, because that would be you :P 3. You were listening to an Indie pop band, which is now your nickname 4. there is a genre called Math rock?! that would be so you... 5. I like cleverness, but I'm just super sappy at times. That is why, music to me change like my mood swings.
