About a year and a half ago - maybe even two years, I don't know - I was put on birth control for everything but the birth control part. I started taking it mostly because I started breaking out in face cysts, but the part where it supposedly made my periods a lot less painful was also a draw. Because my cramps are fucking painful and have, on occasion, driven me to puking. Not because I felt sick! But because it was just that painful.
Well, it worked. I haven't gotten a facial cyst yet, my acne has gone down and my cramps have all but disappeared. If I were in a committed and fluid-bonded relationship with a man, it would be keeping me from getting pregnant. Birth control is awesome.
But.
There's a downside: my period gets dragged out longer. While I rarely get cramps anymore (and when I do, they're more annoying twinges than debilitating pain), I start spotting about half a week before I get my period. Sometimes it's not even red, it's brown, which I assume is dried blood. So I put in my
Diva Cup (I fucking love Diva Cups) and go about my day.
Then I get a rush of blood and tissue about half a week to a week later, leading to the first time I've ever bloodied my damn pants because for years, I had that painful warning day to tell me to get ready.
Also, my period is now over a week long.
Motherfucker.
