World Fantasy Convention

Nov 24, 2008 00:20

I've kind of resisted writing about the World Fantasy Awards for the last few weeks for a number of reasons. Partly because it was such a strange whirl I'm still not *entirely* sure I understood it, or what was going on - and therefore can't quite believe that I actually came back from the thing clutching one of the statuettes in question. (Well, ( Read more... )

I'm getting a bit excited for Chicago. It crept up out of nowhere! November has disappeared so quickly! Hope to see you there!

And hooray for ugly heads!

In regards to tourist shops in airports, I've never really noticed to see how bad JFK and LaGuardia are with the NYC merchandise (I'll keep my eye out on Friday), but I'm sure you can pick up your "I <3 NY" snowglobe if you really wanted it. Then again, I sort of work around the Times Square area (ugh) and we are surrounded by those sorts of touristy places.

and thought, "Shit, that is *repulsive*!" I nearly said so. I doubt that would have been politic.)

You would not be the first to think it, or say it, believe me...

(I've been a WFA presenter and a judge, and carried two home for winners-not-attending, and while I'd love to take one home myself I have to admit it would probably end up doing duty as a hat stand.)

Lovely to meet you, and have fun in Chicago!

Weirdly, the world you left in Calgary sounds like the one I left in London. I spent a couple of hours during my weird overnighter at Heathrow talking to ladies from England and Trinidad, respectively, and most of what we talked about was the election. The entire time I could feel their eyes boring like lasers into my skull, sending me subliminal messages: "You have scary power right now. Don't muck this one up." So that's what I carried home with me and what kept me awake and sane when I had to ignore jet lag and forego an hour and a half of sleep to vote.

Suffice it to say, I'm so relieved...for their sake and everyone else's.

See you Thursday! (Or Friday, more like -- we'll be rolling in fairly late Thursday night.)

I think he's bootiful! Gahan Wilson, famous cartoonist and writer designed the statue and it's perfectly in Gahan's style.

Rob, it was lovely meeting you--hope to see you in San Jose...or maybe even in London--I think I'm going to be doing an event for my Poe anthology at the British Fantasy Society open night January 31st., along with contributors to the anthology: Nick Royle, Pat Cadigan, and Kim Newman.
